Juniperus oxycedrus
Also known as "juniper tar" or "prickly juniper", the oil from this large evergreen shrub is obtained by destructive distillation of the branches and shavings of the tree. Occasionally an oil is also produced from the berries via steam distillation.
Generally non-irritant, cade essential oil has antispeptic properties and can be used in treating cuts, dandruff, eczema, spots etc.
The shrub is native to southern France but is commercially grown in Spain.
